Using bicycles

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

While owning a car allows the user flexibility and is a status symbol, it is often expensive. In areas where the public transport system is not developed, it is the only means of traveling from one place to another. The car is not eco friendly or energy efficient and is a depreciating asset over a period of time.

On the other hand, walking or using bicycles do not cause any pollution. Walking is suitable for shorter distances, but is not convenient for longer distances, especially if the person is not physically fit.  However, the use of bicycles has not taken off  in a big way due to lack of safety and dedicated lanes for bikers.

Bicycle users associations strive to improve the conditions for people using bicycles. This includes:

Providing incentives to individuals using bicycles

Ensuring civic authorities provide suitable facilities like dedicated lanes for bicycle users.
